I have to admit when I first heard about the premise of the CBC comedy I was more then skeptical. After all a show that's a play on a beloved American television show Little House on the Prairie had to be bad. To make it worse, it was going to take a group of Muslims and plant them in the middle of Saskatchewan. Oh yes the humour, the stereotypes of Prairie folks being nothing more then a bunch of red-neck yokels. I truly believed this show had disaster written all over it.
For some reason, I watched the first episode and yes it was not that good. I mean a Muslim being hauled into customs simply because he used the word 'bomb'. in a crowded airport, how racists. Doesn't anyone read those signs?? Here it was, one of those CBC mandated Canadiansarewrongandracistswhileminoritiesaernice programs. Another example of my tax dollars funding garbage.
But, I watched the next week. Then the week after. Then the week after that. You want to know something? I've grown to like the show. It is funny. Perhaps not as funny or as groundbreaking as Seinfeld, for example, but pleasantly amusing.
The show features as many jabs at Toronto as to stereotyping Westerners.
When one considers the cast, it is quite good. After all Sheila McCarthy is in it, and I've been a fan since "I've Heard the Mermaids Singing". Plus, there is Sitara Hewitt of "You Bet Your Ass" fame.

So I encourage you to watch and learn to enjoy this interesting little show.
